Friday Night Sew In - Garden Friends Wallhanging

I forgot to post my Friday Night sew-in project. I started this Garden Friends wallhanging a couple of years ago but have been making slow progress due to the t-shirt quilts. I completed another block (block #5) Friday night and now I just have two small blocks left to piece. I have a lot of blanket stitiching to do on all of the blocks before I can start the sashing. Cute blocks huh?

Farmers Wife Quilt Along - Session 2

It's FINALLY raining in Texas today and it's the perfect weather for sewing. Guilt free sewing too since I have two meals going, the laundry is 90% done and the kitchen is clean. I've got beef stroganoff in the crock pot and chicken tortilla soup on the stove. So my DH has plenty of options for work lunches this week.

I worked on two more blocks; the basket (pg 130) and the Basket Weave block (pg 131). It's been a little tricky since I'm using up 2 charm square packs that I've had for a couple of years. Since they are only 5" square, (there are 2 squares of most of the prints) my lack of fabric does mean I have to plan it out a little bit more, but that adds to the challenge. I liked the basket block but not too thrilled with my fabric choices on the basket weave block. Oh well, good thing there are 108 more blocks to complete the quilt that I'm sure this block will blend in well when it's complete.

Farmers Wife Quilt Along

I've joined in on the Farmers Wife Quilt Along. I loved reading the letters in the book and now I want to be a goat farmer more than ever! I can't say that I'm pleased with the way the author laid out the book though. There is a CD with the book that contains all the templates but they are printed one template per page. Crazy! I did find a .pdf file that some wonderful quilter prepared that fits many of the templates on one page so that helps save a few trees. I started in the order that the blocks are represented in the back of the book. I'm not sure I will stick to this fabric collection (Boutique by Chez Moi for Moda) especially since I don't have much of it. Perhaps fabric shopping is in my future?

How I spent my Summer...Tshirt Quilts!

It seemed like such a great idea at the time. 4 years ago when my handsome son was entering his freshman year of High School, I told my fellow Freshman Moms to save their kids' t-shirts and I would make them t-shirt quilts for Graduation. Well I really didn't think they would take me up on it, I thought they'd forget. NOPE! So I made 6 - yes SIX t-shirt quilts. I'm glad it's done but I think they all turned out nice and the now 'College Freshman' seem very pleased.

I'm baaaccck!

OK, so I've only been gone for a year and a half - been sorta' busy. I'm really going to try and stay on top of this blogging thing from now on.

I have a lot to share but that will have to wait until tomorrow...I'm tired! I just had to make sure I could still sign into my blog. Stay tuned! I know...(I'm such a tease)

19.4 Lbs. gone!

"To get what you've never had, you must do what you've never done".

I've been using this quote and several others to keep me motivated over the last 6 weeks. "Being overweight is hard and so is losing weigh...choose your hard"

IT'S WORKING! At my weigh in today, I lost another 2.8 lbs for a total of 19.4 in 6 weeks. I'm happy with the results. It's so nice to put on your jeans fresh from the dryer and have them be loose.

I owe much of my recent success to my walking buddy Missy. We walk the track at the elementary school and 1.5 hours flies by when chatting with a buddy. My weight watcher leader spoke about "visual reminders" a few weeks back. She keeps an engraved pewter token in her change purse that her friend gave her when she reached her lifetime goal. She says everytime she sees that token it not only reminds her of her dear friend but also the goal she worked so hard for.

When I walk the track at the school, I pick up an acorn after every lap and put it in my pocket. When I get home, I count out the acorns and then put them in my wine carafe (not much wine drinking these days). I leave it on the counter in the kitchen to serve as my visual reminder of the laps I have walked to earn these tiny acorns. "From tiny acorns mighty oaks do grow".
